Sadler's season of frustration

Shrewsbury Town left-back Mat Sadler reckons he ended the season 20 games short of what he expected to play.

The 31-year-old defender started the season as a regular and played the last eight games, but spent much of the campaign kicking his heels in frustration after losing his place to Junior Brown, who outstripped all expectations by emerging as a player of the year contender.

Sadler has piled up almost 400 appearances in his career and never missed a League game between 2010-14. "It (the season) was up and down and hugely frustrating," said Sadler. "I analyse my game more than anyone and I was frustrated at not playing every week as someone used to playing 50 games a season. I managed 30 and for me that's about 20 shy of what I should have played. I haven't missed a day's training for the last seven, eight years so I very much want to be out there. When I'm not, it's hugely frustrating."

The former Birmingham man intends to only have one week off this summer as he looks to build on this season's total of games.
