It's fitness first insists Town ace Mat Sadler
Mat Sadler insists he will only have one week off this summer to ensure he is in tip-top condition to stay in the Shrewsbury Town left-back spot.
The 31-year-old played the last eight games of the season after Junior Brown was injured.
Brown is one of the 17 players out of contract but is expected to win a new deal, which could leave Sadler sidelined again.
But the experienced former Birmingham City defender aims to graft through the close season to convince boss Micky Mellon to pick him.
"I'm working my socks off to be right again for the start of pre-season," said Sadler.
"My missus is a schoolteacher, so we only get a week off together anyway – the Whitsun half-term – so I'll treat that as my relaxing time but the rest of the time I'll be on it.
"We can expect some new faces so it's a case of making sure I'm right on the money, and I'll do that.
"I want to work so hard to make sure it (career) continues for a long time. I have no qualms about doing the 'hard yards'.
"I'll be at the club and at home doing stuff and seeking outside help to ensure I'm in the best possible shape.
Sadler is happy to meet the challenge of competing with Brown head on.
"Junior did really well so that's a cracking challenge to get back into the team," said Sadler.
