Ian Black keen to start Shrewsbury Town talks
Tough-tackling Ian Black has re-iterated his desire to talk over a new contract now Shrewsbury Town are safe.
The former Scotland international still has a year on his deal, signed when he joined midway through September as a free agent.
But the 31-year-old midfielder has claimed there was a verbal agreement that he could re-negotiate his terms if he did well – and would love to extend his stay.
Black said: "Now the club has secured its status, the board and the manager will sit down and decide what they want to do.
"I enjoy it here and I've said I'll never leave a club if I'm doing well there. So if the club like me, I'd love to stay and sign a longer deal."
Town have 17 players out of contract this summer, with five loanees set to rejoin their parent clubs.
Sullay Kaikai has already gone back to Crystal Palace, while James Collins and Tyrone Barnett to return from loans.
Their futures would seem to be the priority over contracted players, so the former Glasgow Rangers man may have to wait.
Black said: "They'll want to recruit a few and there are a lot out of contract. We understand we have to see where they are budget-wise but now we're safe, we'll sit down and speak."
Town achieved safety with one game to spare, but Black always thought they would avoid relegation. He said: "We never believed we'd be in this situation. But I was always confident we'd be fine."
