Abu Ogogo: Get Shrewsbury Town stars signed up

Double player of the year Abu Ogogo has urged Shrewsbury Town to get their out-of-contract stars signed up.

The Londoner, who scooped the players' and fans' Player of the Year award, wants to see goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler, captain Nathaniel Knight-Percival and left-back Junior Brown extend their stays at the club.

And with 17 players out of contract next month and six loanees going back to their parent clubs, Ogogo believes Town will be a stronger force by keeping their best players.

"It's very important; Natty is a key defender and captain, Junior has done really well and Jayson is a top goalkeeper so it would be good to get those tied down," said the 26-year-old. "We've got a lot of players out of contract and a lot of key players in that too.

"So to get them tied down is important and whether the gaffer wants to add a few more or loanees, that's up to him.

"But we've got a good squad as it is so maybe we just need to tweak it here and there, then we'll be good to go."

It's the first time in his career that Ogogo, who was Dagenham's Player of the Year last season, has won both awards and he was delighted.

"Winning one award is good but to win two is very nice," he said.

"It's good to know the fans and my fellow team-mates appreciate the work I've put in so it's a great honour.

"I was shocked because there have been a few good performers this season so it was a pleasant surprise.

"But I just try my best in every game and it's nice to know the fans and my team-mates can see the work I put in."

Ogogo believes winning made it a vote for the unsung hero.

"There are flair players in the team such as Larny (Larnell Cole) and Sullay (Kaikai) and I do the other side which can go unnoticed," he added.

The one-time Arsenal academy graduate is just finishing his first full season in League One but believes he has made the transition from League Two.

"It's been a big step up but I feel I've done quite well," he said.
