Micky Mellon: Shrewsbury Town need to start quickly
Manager Micky Mellon has urged Shrewsbury Town to storm out of the blocks and hit Peterborough early in their survival clash on Saturday.
Town need to win to guarantee their League One safety while they would also be safe if Blackpool lost at home to Wigan.
Either way, boss Mellon is looking to avoid another lacklustre first-half performance that cost them dearly against Walsall on Tuesday night.
Then they conceded twice prior to half-time before losing 2-1 despite an improved second-half showing.
Mellon said: "It's important we start with an intensity where we play at a League One level. We need to come out of the blocks quickly – certainly quicker than we did on Tuesday night.
"I was disappointed we didn't start the game with that intensity. I'll take responsibility for that because I pick the shape and the personnel.
"But we need to show all the qualities we showed on Saturday (when they won 3-2 at Gillingham) and we have to do that from game to game. That's been a little bit like the story of our season.
"The second half against Walsall was miles better than the first half and great credit to the lads who came on, but unfortunately it just wasn't enough."
