Micky Mellon calls for Town to seize safety
Micky Mellon sends Shrewsbury Town into their derby at Walsall tonight urging them to finish the job.
Town need three points from their last three games to ensure their League One safety.
Victory would leave Chesterfield, Fleetwood, Blackpool and Doncaster fighting it out for the final two relegation places in the last two matches.
Boss Mellon wants the points as quickly as possible, saying: "We want to win the next game – that's how quickly we want to get it done.
"We know what we've got to do now so let's concentrate on getting that done. If we get three points, we secure our League One status and that would be great."
Mellon believes with the picture becoming clearer has made their job easier.
"Things are emerging now," he said.
"I think so (makes it easier) but we've still got to do it.
"So the important thing is we don't lose our focus, which is very much on getting the boys prepared to get a good result."
Mellon knows making Town safe could mean one or both of his old clubs Fleetwood and Blackpool could be relegated but said: "It's all about Shrewsbury Town, that's it."
The last time Shrewsbury faced Walsall, the game turned on Ian Black's sending off as the Saddlers went on to win 3-1.
But Mellon insists he won't need to give his players any special instructions.
"They all know their responsibilities to make sure before they do anything to think about what implication it will have on their team-mates," he said.
Walsall were hammered 4-0 by Bradford on Saturday but Mellon believes that won't hit the Saddlers.
"Derbies bring different qualities in people or it affects them," he said. "Form goes out of the window and whatever happened in the last game doesn't really matter."
Walsall are the sixth team in a row Town have played in the top six or just outside it and Mellon believes his players have been on a learning curve. "It's been tough and for large parts we've come out very well," he said. "Other parts we've learned a lot. "It's the next chance to measure ourselves."
