Ian Black gets it in the neck, but insists he's fit for Town
Ian Black is set to be fit for Shrewsbury tonight – after fearing he may have broken his neck.
The former Scotland international fell awkwardly after going up for a header right at the end of Saturday's 3-2 win at Gillingham.
Black was poleaxed for several minutes and was put on a stretcher and told not to move after losing the feeling in his hands. Asked if he could have broken his neck, the 31-year-old said: "Possibly – there was every chance because I couldn't get my arms up to stop my momentum so I got my head stuck under my body as I came down.
"The physio said I was lucky because I got my head on its side rather than straight over because it could have been really bad.
"My left hand was numb and I had pins and needles in it.
"It's stiff but I always declare myself fit if I can and it's alright."
Black underwent a course of acupuncture from head physio Chris Skitt yesterday on his stiff neck.
Meanwhile, Black insists there are no hard feelings over his sending off against Walsall last time – even though he felt Paul Downing got him a second yellow card. "The boy made a meal of it – he achieved what he set out to do," he said.
"He kicked me and I could have been rolling about, but I was bigger than that. I don't hold grudges but hopefully I'll have the last laugh and we'll get the three points."
