Micky Mellon hoping Town will be a loan dream
Micky Mellon is hoping Sullay Kaikai's stunning success could make Shrewsbury Town a magnet for top clubs to send the cream of their talent on loan.
Kaikai is a contender to win League One's player of the month award after hitting five goals in as many games in an unbeaten March.
The 20-year-old on-loan Crystal Palace star has netted 10 in just 19 League games for Town to become their top scorer.
Kaikai was courted by several Championship clubs in the loan window but he said this week Palace boss Alan Pardew was happy for him to continue his development at Greenhous Meadow because of the quality of manager Mellon and assistant Mike Jackson.
And boss Mellon is hoping the word spreads that Town can be a 'finishing school' for potential stars as he admits the loan market is vital for the club.
"I think that's really important because we know how valuable the loan window is for us," said Mellon.
"If managers are saying this is a good place for players to come because they know they get treated properly and we push them on the training pitch and try to make them better, that can only be good for us.
"It gives us an opportunity to get the better young players."
