Jack Grimmer: It's a big ask for Shrewsbury

Defender Jack Grimmer has underlined the size of Shrewsbury Town's task against Wigan - after insisting it will be like facing a Championship side.

Resurgent Town host the second-placed Latics, who are looking favourites to make an immediate return to the Championship.

They will be looking to stretch their unbeaten league run to 19 matches. Grimmer faced Wigan in the Championship for his parent club Fulham last April in a 2-2 draw.

Although they have rebuilt their side after relegation, their squad is packed with players of Championship experience.

And Grimmer is expecting a test of second-tier quality at the Greenhous Meadow tomorrow.

The on-loan right-back said: "You always want to test yourself against the best players, that's why I loved my time when I went into Fulham's team last season.

"Some players in that league (Championship) have immense power and pace and the talent is there too. Playing against Wigan will be the same and it's a challenge I look forward to."

Town are on a nine-match unbeaten run in the league themselves and, after beating fancied teams such as Burton and Coventry this season, Grimmer believes Micky Mellon's side have nothing to fear.

The Scot said: "It's another good game to look forward to, especially with the confidence we've got. Just like we did against Coventry, we can raise our game against the top sides.

"So it's definitely another chance to get points on the board."

Grimmer reckons the belief among the Shrewsbury players is the same as his first loan spell last season, when Town won five out of six in the league and ran Chelsea close in the Capital One Cup.

He said: "Every game I knew I was going out to win, regardless of the opposition. We just had that confidence instilled into us and it's the same now."

One player who is definitely oozing confidence is Sullay Kaikai. The borrowed Crystal Palace star has hit 10 goals for Town, after bagging five in his last five games.

Grimmer is convinced the 20-year-old winger will play in the Premier League. He said: "The fact he's only 20 says it all.

"He's still young and has everything ahead of him but like me, he can express himself here.

"The manager wants to play attractive football and I'm sure after his first loan spell here he had a number of clubs wanting to take him on loan.

"But the connection the manager made with him was vital to getting him back."

Grimmer feels Kaikai's knack of scoring is only going to improve him more.

He said: "Sullay is top scorer and the goals are only going to make him better and give him more confidence. Long may it continue."
