Micky Mellon won't let up on Town revival
Manager Micky Mellon won't let up on Shrewsbury Town's revival as he backed his shadow squad to excel going forward.
The Town boss takes his in-form side to Bury on Saturday aiming to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches in the league and go 10 points clear of the drop zone.
That sort of advantage would put Shrewsbury in an increasingly advantageous position with only nine games left.
But Mellon won't be allowing his charges to think they are clear until they are mathematically safe.
The Town boss said: "I'm type of person who believes you always have to keep improving.
"Even if I was considered by everyone else to be mid-table or whatever, I'd want to be better. I'd want to keep improving.
"It's just the type of guy I am, I want to be better all of the time.
"I don't really know where we are, I just know we have to keep getting better and that's what we continue to do with all of the players."
Shrewsbury will travel to Greater Manchester in confident mood after just one defeat in 11 away games in all competitions.
But Mellon assured fans he won't be allowing any complacency to creep in.
He said; "I'm the last person in the world that will get carried away with anything. I just expect you to do it again and better – that's how it will always be here."
Meanwhile, Mellon backed his 'back-up' squad to continue to impress as several casualties close in on a return to contention.
The Town boss is hoping to have Jayson Leutwiler, Matt Tootle, Zak Whitbread, Jermaine Grandison, Junior Brown and James Wallace back available, possibly for this weekend.
Their absences have led to recalls for the likes of Mark Halstead, Dom Smith, Mat Sadler and Jordan Clark.
Mellon said: "We've had to change things but the lads that have come in have done terrifically well and carried forward the work.
"So we've got lads closer to coming back such as James Wallace and James Wesolowski, and the shorter-term casualties such as Junior Brown and Zak Whitbread, who are improving.."
