Town considered a move for Grant Holt
Shrewsbury Town are still hoping to re-sign Sullay Kaikai – and boss Micky Mellon considered moving for Grant Holt.
It's understood Crystal Palace are willing for Kaikai to return to Greenhous Meadow, but the 20-year-old is still feeling his hamstring.
He won't be signed to play in this evening's visit of Rochdale, but Palace's injury situation is easing.
The Eagles are without a win in 10 Premier League outings, so Kaikai is unlikely to force his way back into contention while the team is struggling.
Dwight Gayle, Yannick Bolasie and Mile Jedinak are all available now for Palace, while Bakary Sako is expected to return to contention for tonight's trip to Sunderland.
Mellon said: "We're still looking and hopefully we'll still get something done. It could be done in five minutes, five days or two weeks.
"It's always very delicate but we want a fifth loan in and we're working hard to get something done that would make us better."
Meanwhile, Mellon admitted there was 'talk' of bringing 34-year-old Holt back to the Meadow.
Rochdale's Holt, who remains Town's record £170,000 signing, is poised for his first playing return to Shrewsbury tonight.
He spent one season at the club in 2008-09, when he scored 28 goals and was sold to Norwich City for £400,000.
Mellon said: "He's had a fantastic career and I'm sure, when he looks back, on it he'll look back very fondly."
Holt rejoined tonight's opponents Rochdale in January from Wigan after loan spells with Huddersfield, Aston Villa and Wolves.
Asked if he had thought of bringing him back in January, Mellon said: "I think there was talk about it, but we want to go another way.
"There's talk about players all the time that get flung at us – I've probably had about 12 this morning.
"But he made a terrific contribution here and it was money well spent. If it's something we think is different to what we've got, we look to do that.
"If it was something similar, I don't see the need."
