Jayson Leutwiler leads case for Town's defence
Goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler has led the case for Shrewsbury Town's defence – and backed the forwards to start scoring.
Town's 0-0 draw at rock-bottom Colchester on Saturday meant they remained in the League One drop zone, on goal difference below Blackpool.
Leutwiler kept his second shutout in three league outings and he believes Salop have the defensive strength to win their survival battle.
Town failed to register an effort on target for the second game in a row, however, but the shot-stopper is confident the tide will turn, starting at home to Rochdale tomorrow night.
He said: "It's frustrating but my concentration has to be on defending and I'm sure the forwards will do their jobs and score in the next game.
"It was more important we put in a good defensive performance and we were strong. We mustn't get frustrated, we must keep calm and keep working hard.
"The defence looked very good. We have to be proud that the back three and then the back four are so strong. It makes my job easier."
Colchester made it a club record 19 league games without a win, but Leutwiler maintained the result was a positive one.
He continued: "I still think it was a good point. We didn't lose against a team below us and that was important."
Town have 14 games left and Leutwiler is confident they will escape the drop zone, saying: "There are a lot of games to play. We've been consistent in the last four or five games."
Meanwhile, Leutwiler remains confident he will sign his new deal, adding: "I'm still in negotiations. "We're not far apart at all and I'm still hopeful of staying and so are the club.
"I'm looking forward to signing the contract. But there are things to sort out."
And Leutwiler welcomed the Premier League's decision to declare Juan Mata's free-kick for Manchester United should have been disallowed for offside.
He added: "It's good I've been made an example and that it won't happen again for other goalkeepers."
