Micky Mellon unfazed by Shrewsbury pressure

Manager Micky Mellon insists the only pressure he feels is what he puts on himself as he tries to plot Shrewsbury Town's survival.

The Town boss again came under fire after Saturday's 3-0 League One defeat to fellow strugglers Barnsley, which put them in the bottom four for the first time since August.

Fans booed the team off and Mellon was criticised on social media. Shrewsbury's heaviest home loss of eight this season made it 10 goals against in the last two League games.

But Mellon is only concentrating on the next game, at leaders Burton Albion on Saturday.

Mellon said: "The only pressure I feel is what I put on myself because of the standards I have as a manager. The only thing I concentrate on is winning the next game because football's like that.

"You have to get the first goal in the next game and the world changes. That's all I concentrate on – nothing else bothers me.

"If you love your football club you've got to be disappointed when it's not winning, and I'm no different to anyone else."

Town slipped into the bottom four on goal difference below Fleetwood, who have two games in hand.

Mellon suggests he is more concerned about getting things right for the next game than dropping into the relegation zone.

He said: "I'm worried because we lost a game. I always take every game in isolation.

"Everyone saw us at Cardiff a week before, so I have to look at Saturday's game and the things that went wrong and focus only on winning the next game, as I always do."

Mellon insists he has a clear mind about Town's troubles, adding: "We've got to keep an even head on it, get back to work and keep working hard. I'm calm about the whole situation."
