Josh Ginnelly urged to stick with Shrewsbury
Shrewsbury Town chief executive Matt Williams has urged winger Josh Ginnelly to remain at the Greenhous Meadow next season.
Town supremo Williams insists that manager Micky Mellon is the right boss to get the best out of him.
Ginnelly, who was a second year scholar at the club last season, has still yet to sign a first professional contract tabled by the club.
The highly-rated yougnster, who has been linked with a handful of Championship and Premier League teams, is stalling on extending his stay at the club.
"He will see what offers are available to him, he will decide what is best for him.
"Personally I think his future is here because he would be working with a manager that can develop him and he's in and around our first-team squad, but it is his choice."
Ginnelly, 18, made his first team debut as an 89th-minute substitute in Town's 2-0 home win over Luton Town in August last year.
Celtic, Ipswich Town, Newcastle United, Stoke City and Sunderland have all been linked with moves for the skilful wide man.
If he does opt for a move, Town would be due compensation under current rules.
Williams said: "There would be compensation due and it would be set by tribunal.
"If a club wants to sign him they will have to have a conversation with us, at some stage, and no one has had that conversation with us."
Wherever he plays next season, Williams believes first team football is a must for his development.
He said: "I have seen it many times where players have gone to big clubs, they don't play for the first team and in two or three years they are released.
"It's for clubs like Shrewsbury to get them going again."
