Salop fans have been purring all year about the quality of football produced since the arrival of boss Micky Mellon last summer.

And now their dominance show how Mellon's charges compare with the other 72 clubs in the Football League.

Shrewsbury really did turn Greenhous Meadow into a fortress, with Salop enjoying the best home record across all three divisions.

Mellon's side picked up a staggering 55 points in front of their own supporters, two more than League One champions Bristol City and three more than Burton Albion, who pipped them to the crown.

Town's defence was the meanest across the Football League.

Goalkeeper Jayson Leutwiler saw his defence breached just 31 times in the league, with Championship outfit Middlesbrough the next best on 37.

Town also conceded a measly 11 goals at home, with League Two rivals Southend the only team to better that – Phil Brown's Shrimpers letting in just nine goals at Roots Hall all year.

The mighty Shrews also end the campaign with a win percentage of 59 per cent after coming out on top in 27 of their 46 league fixtures.

Only Bristol City and Burton Albion can boast a better record, with the Robins claiming 29 victories and Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink's title-winning Brewers 28.

One of the major reasons why Salop won so many games was their ability to keep clean sheets with Leutwiler breaking a 47-year club record by registering 23 shut-outs in the season.

That number was also matched by Southend, with Milton Keynes Dons managing 22 clean sheets and Middlesbrough 21.

Finally, Town tied in joint fifth place with Preston when it comes to the amount of league points they won throughout the campaign.

Mellon's side finished the year on 89, with Bournemouth on 90, Milton Keynes Dons on 91, Burton on 94 and Bristol City on 99.
