Micky Mellon out to upset Russ Wilcox

Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon will come up against a familiar foe tomorrow - but is still surprised Russ Wilcox is now in charge of York City.

The League Two Manager of the Year guided Scunthorpe to promotion last season, but was sacked last week after a poor start to this campaign.

Wilcox hit the headlines when he took over at Glanford Park in November 2013 by going on to set a world record for the longest unbeaten run at the beginning of a managerial reign – 28 matches without defeat.

And Mellon knows the former Preston player will be looking to make a similar start following his appointment.

He said; "I know Russ well and I was very pleased for him that he managed to get back in the game so quickly.

"I thought the job he did at Scunthorpe was fantastic. He has just broken the record for a new manger on an unbeaten run and then he has got himself the sack.

"It's quite unbelievable, but that's football and that is the world we live in. Knowing Russ he will want to go in there and do very well, very quickly.

"But, after Saturday's win, we go there will confidence and we will be looking to get that first win on the road.

"There is obviously a new manager and we will speak about their direction and what we expect but we have to go there and worry about our own performances.

"We have played well at times but the results on the road have not been good enough and don't back up our home form.

"I feel we know as much as we need to know about York. Russ Wilcox is an experienced manager but he won't be able to revolutionise what they are doing in just a few games.

"It will take him a while to put his blue print on it."

Midfielder James Wesolowski is suspended tomorrow and his absence is likely to mean a recall for skipper Liam Lawrence.
