Attacking options firing up Shrewsbury Town, says James Collins
James Collins insists the strong competition for places upfront can only benefit Shrewsbury Town as they prepare for tomorrow night's exciting trip to Premier League Leicester City.
Collins came off the bench to score a fine goal, his third of the season, as Town's 10 men were denied an impressive victory at Northampton by a last-minute equaliser from the Cobblers in Saturday's 1-1 League Two draw.
Town, who remain unbeaten five games into the season, played for more than an hour at Sixfields a man light after skipper Liam Lawrence was sent off. But Collins felt there were plenty of positives to emerge despite the frustration of being pegged back by a late equaliser and he's now looking forward to facing Leicester in the Capital One Cup second round.
He said: "It's always nice to go away to a Premier League side. It will be a nice pitch, nice stadium, good players, so it's something every footballer wants to do so hopefully we can go there and put a show on."
Collins and Scott Vernon started on the bench against Northampton as Andy Mangan and Jean-Louis Akpa Akpro kept their places upfront after impressing against Accrington last Tuesday.
Collins believes it can only be good for Town to have such a strong squad and "having four strikers at the club with the calibre that we've got".
He added: "The two lads (Mangan and Akpa Akpro) did well against Accrington. They scored three of the four goals so you can't have any arguments when you're on the bench when they're putting in performances like that. I think they started off well again on Saturday before the sending off so I think it will make us a better side with the competition we've got."
