Promotion the target for Shrewsbury Town new-boy Ashley Vincent

New signing Ashley Vincent has set his sights on completing a career hat-trick of promotions with Shrewsbury Town.

The versatile former Cheltenham Town winger, who can play on either flank, has enjoyed promotion from League Two with the Robins in 2006 and again with Port Vale back in 2013.

And the 28-year-old, who yesterday became new Town boss Micky Mellon's first signing, is aiming to do the same again with his new club.

He said: "I have done it once in the play-offs and once automatically so I know what it takes in both sorts of scenarios.

"It is a tough league to get out of, there is no doubt about that. You have to scrap your way out but I know the way the manager wants to play is attacking football and to get the ball down and play.

"The plan more than anything else is to get the fans back on side, excite them and give them something to be proud of. I really want to be part of that.

"Hopefully we can play attractive but winning football and achieve our objective at the end of the season, which is promotion."

Vincent is the first of several new faces expected to arrive at the Greenhous Meadow in the coming weeks as the club rebuilds following last season's relegation from League One.

And he is already looking forward to linking up with his new team-mates ahead of what he hopes will be a big season for both him and the club.

He said: "I have played more of my career as a winger and that is probably where the manager sees me playing the majority of my games.

"But I can play off the target man up front as well. I like to create chances and also like to chip in and score some goals, so I am looking forward to the season starting and joining up with what will be a new-look squad."

Mellon said his new signing, who was released by Cheltenham earlier this month, will fit right in.

"He's someone I've been aware of since I was at Fleetwood and he's a really pacy, exciting attacking player with great technique."
