Shrewsbury Town's Alex McQuade to continue loan stint at Hyde

Hyde manager Scott McNiven has hailed the versatility of Shrewsbury Town defender Alex McQuade after extending his loan deal until the end of the season.

McQuade arrived at the Greenhous Meadow as a summer signing but had been restricted to just two first team appearances for his parent club in seven months before Skrill Premier basement side Hyde snapped him up.

McQuade joined on an initial month's loan at the end of February and after playing six matches, both in his more familiar role of left back and as a centre-back, the deal was extended on Wednesday to cover the rest of the campaign.

And McNiven said: "He's been really good . He's been pretty solid.

"It's a different level to what Shrewsbury play at but and we couldn't wait to keep him on board for another month.

"I have been really impressed. I can't speak highly enough of him. His attitude has been first class.

"He's played more left hand side centre half than left back and it looks like he can do both."

McQuade has also played on the left side of a back three for Hyde and asked if the player had the ability to establish himself in the Football League McNiven said: "I think he has got the tools to progress. We'll just have to wait and see how he gets on."

Shrewsbury Town boss Mike Jackson has also been keeping tabs on the player's progress and said that he would benefit from more first team football.

He said: "The loan has been extended and it works for both parties.

"I have had little bits of feedback about how he is getting on, not loads but he's doing OK, it suits him and he needs to play games."

McQuade made his senior debut for Town on the opening day of the season, replacing Paul Parry in the 89th minute of a 0-0 draw at home to MK Dons.

He also replaced injured striker John Marsden after just 18 minutes of a League Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers three days later.

But he had since been restricted to reserve team football at Town prior to his move North where he has made seven starts in games against Braintree, Halifax, Alfreton, Hereford, Dartford, Aldershot and Chester.
