We are aware of derby importance says Shrewsbury's Joe Jacobson
Shrewsbury fans have been waiting for tomorrow's clash with neighbours Wolves since the final day of last season.
But Town defender Joe Jacobson said the players have also been feeling the pre-derby buzz in the days leading up to the much-hyped encounter.
"The gaffer will have us preparing as if it is a normal game and doing the normal things we need to do to win but you can tell there is a bit of a buzz around the place," he said.
"I have played in other derbies around the country and they mean a lot to everyone involved – and the players do get caught up in it. I may not be from the area but I still get caught up in it all.
"I live a mile away from the ground and you speak to people in the street and they are looking forward to this.
"It's been building up since the end of last season and it's a big occasion for the fans.
"There are a lot of local people who have family that are Shrewsbury fans and Wolves fans and they want to get one over on their friends and family.
"And we are going to do everything we can to help (our fans to do that).
"We want win it as much everyone out there, all the fans and everyone who this game means a lot to."
Jacobson is aware that he and his team mates have been firmly cast as the underdogs against a Wolves side that is sitting third in the table and which had won six on the spin prior to Tuesday night's surprise 1-0 home defeat to Walsall.
And the former Cardiff City player expects Wolves to be plotting a rapid response to that underwhelming result.
But he is relishing the prospect of playing in front of what is likely to be a sell-out crowd at the Greenhous Meadow.
And he is hopeful that the white-hot atmosphere inside the stadium can inspire the team to what would be a famous victory.
"Every team wants to put a defeat or a draw right and they are going to be right up for this game," he said.
"But there is going to be a full house here. There have not been many full houses since I have been here.
"The game where we won promoted from League Two against Dagenham & Redbridge (in April 2012) was probably the last time and when it is full here it's a great atmosphere.
"The place is bouncing and it gives you that extra bit of motivation to go and win the game.
"These are the games players want to play in.
"You look forward to these games all season, the ones which draw big crowds against the so-called big teams.
"As a player you thrive on these occasions and hopefully everyone comes out of their shell and performs as well as they can. Hopefully we come out on top."
Shrewsbury will also be going into the game keen to bounce back from their own disappointment in midweek, having shipped an equaliser six minutes from time to draw 1-1 with struggling Bristol City.
That result stretched Town's unbeaten run in the league to five games, but it was also the third time in four matches that they have surrendered a lead to end up drawing.
Jacobson said: "We need to start holding on to leads.
"We have been working on it for the last week or two in training and if we do go ahead tomorrow we need to make sure that we do a bit more to go and get another goal and shut out the other team."
