Frustrated Graham Turner draws a transfer blank
SHREWSBURY boss Graham Turner has revealed his frustration at a fruitless week in the transfer market.
Turner has been working hard to bring in cover for Jermaine Grandison after the defender picked up a hip injury.
The former Hereford United, Wolves and Villa chief has also been aiming to recruit extra quality in other areas of the pitch, but has seen his efforts come to nothing.
He said: "With the transfer window for permanent deals closing next week, we have been looking to strengthen the squad. With Jermaine being unavailable, we have looked at that option and we have obviously wanted to strengthen elsewhere – but without fruition at the moment.
"It has been very frustrating. Some of the players we have missed, some of them the circumstances have not been right, some of them the clubs have been saying: 'If we bring somebody in, he will be available.' So you are relying on happenings at other clubs rather than being able to force the situation.
"Supporters get fed up of listening to excuses, but I feel frustrated that I have not been able to bring anybody in that would strengthen the team."
However, Turner has enjoyed several successes in the January transfer window before this week with midfielder David McAllister arriving from Sheffield United and loan pair Steve McGinn and Yado Mambo coming in from Watford and Charlton Athletic respectively.
Two weeks ago, West Bromwich Albion defender Cameron Gayle rejoined Shrewsbury until the end of the season on a youth loan while striker Luke Rodgers signed a permanent deal with Town last Friday.
Grandison, who is expected to be out for five to six weeks, is one of three players currently sidelined at the Greenhous Meadow along with striker Ryan Double (hand) and winger Mark Wright (knee).
Turner said: "Jermaine needs a fortnight's rest. Then it could be an injection and another rest and hopefully then he should start training."
