Shrewsbury Town scorer Jon Taylor happy with point

Jon Taylor insists Shrewsbury Town's players should be pleased at taking a point from a 2-2 draw at Crawley despite their disappointing finish.

Town were heading for the first away win of the season until Josh Simpson hit an 80th-minute leveller. Substitute Tom Bradshaw then botched the chance to restore the visitors' lead in stoppage time when he missed from close range.

But wing ace Taylor says Shrewsbury's first-half fightback was a vindication of the team bonding exercises they underwent at RAF Shawbury during the enforced break.

"We were devastated to concede in the last 10 minutes and we're upset we didn't get the three points," said Taylor.

"But we've had a good week at the RAF and we've been working a lot on team building.

"I think that really helped on a poor pitch which we couldn't get the ball down and play on it."

After skipper Matt Richards had cancelled out Simpson's first goal, Taylor edged Shrewsbury ahead with a superb solo effort.

The Merseysider ran from his own half to drive the ball into the top corner for his second goal of the campaign. "It was one of my best goals I've scored," he admitted.

Town boss Graham Turner, while critical of his side's defending, felt the performance was a vast improvement on their previous 1-0 defeat at Oldham.

But Bradshaw's late miss baffled him as the striker had shown a clinical edge only 24 hours earlier.

"Tom was putting them in for fun in a training match we had on Friday, so I couldn't see how he could miss it," said the manager.

Winger Mark Wright suffered a knee ligament tweak, which forced him off before the half-hour mark, but Turner suspects the injury isn't serious.
