A place in the third tier of English football beckons for Shrewsbury Town tomorrow.

It has been 18 years since they faced such a scenario when Fred Davies led the side to the Division Three title in 1993-94.

The championship was sealed with a 4-1 victory at Scunthorpe while the trophy was presented in a home goalless draw with Wigan Athletic.

But the promotion-clinching day came in a 2-1 Gay Meadow victory over Northampton which featured goals from Ray Woods and Wayne Clarke.
