AFC Telford United boss Rob Edwards has hailed the versatility and 'spot-on' attitude of Elliot Newby, adding: "You need people like that."

Newby, aged 21, has been used in a variety of positions since being signed from Barrow this summer.

The former Bolton Wanders youngster is recognised as a left winger, but has featured behind the striker and starred at right wing-back as the Bucks won 2-0 at Nuneaton Town on Tuesday night.

"You can put Elliot anywhere. I think you could put him in goal and he'd do a good job," said Edwards.

"You need people like that, who you can trust to slot in different positions."

Newby is one of three players that have started all nine of Telford's National League North games so far – the others being skipper Shane Sutton and goalkeeper Jas Singh.

Edwards added: "We have that luxury where we can play him either side and even through the middle as well.

"His attitude is spot-on, different class. He is a very valuable member of the squad."

Edwards has a few players struggling with injuries at the moment.

Jack Rea (ankle), Matthew Barnes-Homer (hamstring) and Aaron Simpson (hamstring) all missed the victory at Liberty Way.

Jordan Lussey was also not involved in that game due to illness.

On how that group is looking for the visit of Harrogate Town on Saturday, Edwards said: "Barnesy is his hamstring and Jack is his ankle.

"Aaron as well is his hamstring. Jordan we are hoping to have back because it is an illness.

"The lads with the injuries will be doubtful."

Meanwhile, Edwards has spoke of the flourishing strike partnership of Anthony Dwyer and Marcus Dinanga.

Dwyer netted the 1000th goal since the club's reformation in 2004, on Tuesday – and his third of the campaign.

Dinanga, who is on a season-long youth loan from Burton Albion, is also on three for the term.

Dwyer is aiming for 25 goals this season, and Dinanga is looking to match the 34 he managed on loan at Evo-Stik Northern Premier club Matlock Town last season.

"First and foremost, they are working hard," Edwards said.

"If they do that, with the talent they have got they will be a threat.

"If they keep their work rate up, they will do well."
