Decision making costing AFC Telford
AFC Telford United have got to improve their game management to survive in the National League North, according to assistant boss Larry Chambers.
The Bucks took an early lead through Dwayne Samuels at Gainsborough Trinity on Saturday, but were pegged back little over 10 minutes later in a 1-1 draw.
Chambers said: "They scored too quickly afterwards. The key thing for me was that we scored early, and that's great away from home, but we needed to keep them quiet.
"We should have played what we call percentage football. The goal came from one of our mistakes and there's been too many of those.
"We didn't turn them around, we didn't press them and we didn't make things difficult for them.
"Once they got back into the game it gave them an impetus and it was difficult for us.
"It's individual decision making. Players know the things they've got to do and we've got to manage the game better.
"We didn't do that at a crucial period. There were some other good performances later on but that period was key. You want to keep them quiet and we didn't."
Despite the positives of Eusebio Bancessi and John Cofie enjoying impressive debuts, central defender Graham Hutchison picked up a calf strain in his final game on loan from Halifax.
Curtis Tilt was then shown a late red card, leaving the Bucks light at the back.
Rob Smith's assistant added: "Initially, we thought with 'Hutch' it was cramp but we've found out was a calf strain.
"We don't know how bad that is but in terms of keeping him I'll talk to Halifax and assess the situation. We're looking to bring a centre-half in as cover, that's a priority now.
"To bring in good quality at this time is difficult, but it's proved with John Cofie that they're out there."
