AFC Telford United will look to add to their squad this week as Rob Smith and Larry Chambers hunt for the players to drag the team towards National League North safety.

With striker Connor McCarthy set to return to Southport and Jake Hibbs' loan from FC Halifax also due to expire, the Telford bosses are looking to boost their depleted ranks.

But Chambers said it has so far proved difficult finding the right 'calibre' of players to improve the struggling team.

"What we're finding now is it's bringing the right calibre of players in," Chambers said. "We've got to be sure the players we bring in can improve the side and it's difficult. But we'll keep trying."

McCarthy is set for his Telford farewell this weekend in the trip to Curzon Ashton. He and midfielder Hibbs missed Friday's FA Trophy victory over FC United of Manchester.

On McCarthy, Chambers said: "We put a request in to see if he could play in the trophy, they said no. They made it clear that when his loan expires they will be calling him back.

"The new manager, Dino Maamria, I think he wants as many players around him as he can. So yes, Connor will be going back."

Smith and Chambers are working to try to extend Hibbs' loan.
