AFC Telford chairman Ian Dosser says a combination of "disastrous results and falling attendances" were behind the decision to sack Steve Kittrick.

The Bucks brought an end to the 57-year-old's eight month reign yesterday, just five games into the season.

His assistant Chris Holland has also left the club, with goalkeeping coach Andy Pryce taking temporary charge of the first-team.

Dosser revealed the board decided to act after Saturday's 2-0 defeat to Gainsborough, which left the club bottom of National League North.

"We met as a board after the game on Saturday and then spoke again during Sunday," he said.

"Steve was very professional during his time at the club. He did a lot of good things and I think he will do well at another club.

"But it was a combination of disastrous results and falling attendances which were behind the decision.

"We cannot afford the combination of those two things."

The Shropshire Star understands Kittrick, who flew out to Portugal for a short break after Saturday's game, was informed of the club's decision during a telephone conversation with Dosser yesterday afternoon.

"It has been a disastrous start to the season but this decision is not based on just five games," added Dosser.

The chairman admitted the club are keen to make a quick appointment, if possible, but said they are yet to approach any candidate about the post.

"Ideally we want to make a quick appointment," he said. "We don't want to look like we are rushing into it, though, in the past we have been accused of being too slow in the process."
