Bucks boss in talks to sign league centre-half
AFC Telford boss Steve Kittrick is eyeing a defender with significant Football League experience to solve his shortage at the centre of his defence.
Kittrick has been working to bring in an experienced stopper following the recent departures of Neill Byrne and Ian Sharps. He is hopeful of completing that goal in the coming days and he revealed that his current top target played several games in the English fourth tier last season.
He said: "The club that I am trying to get a centre-half from are full-time. They were playing last night, he was getting half a game so we will just have to see where we go with it today.
"He has played in League Two last year and played 30-odd games, but he is only a young player so he will bring a lot of qualities to us."
Kittrick, whose team will take on Wolves under-21s at the New Bucks Head in a pre-season clash this evening, has other irons in the fire though should that deal not materialise. He said: "We spoke to one on Friday and he has decided to stay where he is, but I have spoken to two others."
Kittrick is determined to add to his central defensive options before the National League North opener at Lowestoft on August 8.
He said: "If we have to start the season without it, it is not for the want of trying."
