AFC Telford United manager Steve Kittrick has challenged his seven pre-season trialists to burst through as surprise packages for the Bucks.

Kittrick, who hopes to complete the signing of an un-named winger in the next 24 hours, will welcome his squad back for pre-season training on Saturday with a host of hopefuls looking to force their way into his squad.

And the New Bucks Head boss expects a couple of the players to stand out at their pre-season auditions, which could also include appearances against Football League opposition.

He said: "We are back for pre-season on Saturday and I am looking forward to it.

"We've got seven trialists in on Saturday and when you do that one or two of them always surprise you and exceed your expectations.

"A few always fall by the wayside but I would expect one or two to take us by surprise, and if they do they will find themselves in my squad for next season."

The Bucks' preparations for the new season will include visits from teams representing Championship duo Derby and Wolves on July 24 and 28 respectively.

League One side Walsall send a team to the Bucks Head on July 21. They kick off their pre-season programme at AFC Wulfrunians on July 18.

Kittrick said: "I think pre-season will be good. We have kept it quite local, which is good for the supporters and good for me.

"I will get to visit some grounds I haven't been to before and get to know the clubs in the area a bit better."

Meanwhile, Kittrick still hopes to complete the signing of the mystery wide man by tomorrow despite being forced to wait for a decision.

He said: "His agent has told me we will have a decision in the next 24 hours.

"I am never confident until a player has signed, but sometimes it's best to leave it with the player rather than getting onto them every day."
