AFC Telford plan talks with a host of players
AFC Telford United boss Steve Kittrick plans talks with 'four or five' players as he hopes to move closer to strengthening his squad.
Kittrick is set to meet several targets tomorrow night in a bid to bolster his side, following relegation from the Conference.
Then there's the exit of several players, including right-back John Disney to National North rivals Hednesford Town.
Kittrick said: "I've got some meetings planned tomorrow, with regards to players.
"I am meeting with four or five lads for a chat – a couple of players have been offered terms and we're speaking again.
"It's all positive and all good, so hopefully there will be some good news. They are just lads I have identified and wanted to have a look at.
"Some have been here already and want another look round and some have been here with their agents and others with their dads."
Kittrick wants his senior squad in place before he starts to add some younger players to challenge them.
He said: "The intention is to get a squad of 17 or 18 players and then invite four or five youngsters to come and join us and be part of the first-team squad.
"We have some younger lads coming on trial who have been at Walsall and Shrewsbury."
Kittrick believes Telford could be the safety net to rebuild the shattered hopes of youngsters who have been released by pro clubs.
He said: "I always use the example of Jamie Vardy. He started at Stocksbridge Park Steels and then moved on and got opportunities.
"I remember we took four lads from Shrewsbury at the end of the season and they were feeling very disappointed after being released.
"I've said to these lads that you can make a living out of non-league football and that it can be good for them, because they get an understanding of men's football.
"Then if they do well, they can get back into the professional game."
