Mat Bailey keen to link-up with Disney

Defender Mat Bailey is keen to re-establish a fruitful defensive partnership with full-back John Disney at AFC Telford next season.

Bailey re-joined the Bucks from Nantwich Town earlier this month as part of a summer overhaul by manager Steve Kittrick in the wake of last season's relegation from the Conference Premier.

Telford have also retained the services of full-back Disney, who joined in January, for next season's Conference North campaign.

And Bailey already knows the two can form an effective unit at the back.

Bailey said: "I get on really well with 'Diz'. He came on loan to Nantwich (from Chester) last season before he signed for Telford.

"I was playing alongside him then and we had a really good partnership. He was playing right-back and I was playing right-sided centre-half so hopefully we can re-kindle that partnership again for Telford. That would be great."

The two worked well together playing in the Evo-Stik Northern League Premier Division and Bailey is relishing the chance to prove himself at the next tier up with Telford.

Bailey is no stranger to the non-league's upper echelons having had loan spells at Southport and Barrow among others in a much-travelled career.

He has plied his trade at an even higher level in the Football League with Crewe Alexandra and Stockport County but still feels he has a point to prove

He said: "I am stepping up a league. I played at this level for years previously but because I am coming from the league below I have definitely got to prove myself."
