Chris Holland set to become AFC Telford's new number two.

Former Birmingham City midfielder Chris Holland is a strong contender to become AFC Telford's new assistant manager.

Bucks boss Steve Kittrick has been looking for a new No.2 since Andy Todd left the club to join Hednesford in February.

He was known to be keen on two other candidates for the post but was seen speaking to Holland, his former assistant at Guiseley, before Telford's historic victory over Altrincham on Saturday.

The 2-1 win marked the first time Telford have won three matches on the spin in the Conference Premier.

And Kittrick said afterwards: "I haven't seen Chris for six months and he has been working silly hours. He said it is the first serious football game he has been to since we left Guiseley so obviously he is keen to get back in.

"I am keen to have a good assistant, we have worked well together but there's another couple of people in the wings and I want to do what is best for Telford, not personally for myself.

"He's well known in football, he is a great lad and it is a conversation that we will be having but it has got to be right for Telford.

"I think he would like to come to Telford. He has got to look at his work commitments and that has got to be 100 per cent dead right but I have got two other very good options and they all bring different things. But the advantage Chris has got is that I have worked with him.

"If he can commit himself to what the club wants and what I want going forward then he's obviously going to be a prime candidate.

"The big thing about Chris is I know him and I can trust him - and trust goes a long way in football."

Meanwhile Kittrick is also aiming to make goalkeeper James Montgomery one of his first signings for next season once the club's budget has been agreed.

Montgomery has impressed greatly since joining Telford in March on non-contract terms, but the Bucks will have competition from Walsall, with which the player spent last week training.

Kittrick said: "He wants to stay here and once I get the budget agreed this week he will be one of my first signings if I can get him (to put) pen to paper."
