VIDEO: Kittrick wants more AFC Telford wins
AFC Telford United manager Steve Kittrick has challenged his team to kick-start another unbeaten run following Saturday's 1-0 win at Torquay United.
The Bucks, who remain 11 points adrift of Conference Premier safety, had arrived at Plainmoor on the back of a five-match losing streak.
But prior to that disappointing run, Telford had taken nine points from a possible 18 – a streak that included a four match unbeaten run in the league.
Consecutive draws against Nuneaton followed by back-to-back wins over Aldershot and Wrexham in December and January hinted at a survival push under the new Bucks boss.
And Kittrick, whose team will travel to high-flying Macclesfield tomorrow, said: "Hopefully we can get back-to-back wins or back-to-back points.
"Then that will make it difficult for everybody around us, and the aim is still to stay in this league.
"We have got to take Saturday's performance on to tomorrow and go on a little run again.
"When I first came here we went five unbeaten (including an FA Trophy win at Chester) and then we lost our way a little bit.
"But the players believe again, and it is on again. Torquay are a full-time side so we have got to take a lot of confidence from this result and the performance."
Telford defeated a side that was playing in League Two less than 12 months ago.
Goalkeeper Freddy Hall helped keep the Gulls off the scoresheet with three particularly excellent saves.
Kittrick said: "I don't normally praise goalkeepers because they are there to make saves. But I said in the changing rooms afterwards, 'that's as good as you'll see all year.'
"The saves he made in the second half were fantastic."
Tony Gray's 10th-minute winner earned the Bucks their sixth league win of the season.
But it came at a price as they lost striker Sam Smith to a hamstring injury and he is now doubtful for tomorrow's visit to Moss Rose.
"Sam pulled his hamstring so he might be out for a while," said Kittrick.
