Andy Pryce thinks AFC Telford were unlucky

AFC Telford United coach Andy Pryce bemoaned his side's bad luck after a comical own-goal saw the Bucks crash to a 3-2 defeat against Dartford on home turf.

Midfielder Danny Ventre was the unlucky man as 'keeper Freddy Hall let the ball slip through his fingers deep into stoppage time.

Unbelievably, the ball bounced off the back of Ventre's head and into the Telford net to see Dartford to an undeserved win at the New Bucks Lead.

The loss leaves the club's Conference Premier survival hopes hanging by a thread, with many fans viewing the game as a crucial six-pointer with Dartford also in the drop zone.

And Pryce was particularly disappointed to lose the game, having seen the Bucks dominate the first-half. Manager Steve Kittrick was unable to talk to the press due to a prior engagement.

Pryce said: "I can't believe we are walking away from it with nothing. We should be coming away from that game with a point, at the very minimum.

"When you look at the first half we should be 2-1, 3-1, up with the chances we have had. We got back into the game twice, but another individual error and we have gifted them three points.

"It's the story of our season. We haven't had any luck."

After drawing level through the impressive Tony Gray, Telford were on the front foot until the hour mark when Godfrey Poku was sent off for an alleged elbow.

He said: "We looked at the red card and we see Poku tustling for the ball and then, all of a sudden, their lad is on the floor.

"The referee has seen he has got a bit of blood on him and he's made a decision. He thinks he's chucked an elbow in, which is disappointing.

"But we weren't good enough in the second half in general. It was sluggish and lethargic which is disappointing,"

A goalkeeper himself, Pryce believes Hall will come back from his mistake stronger, saying: "Freddy has come out and tried to claim a cross.

"But the ball has bounced off Danny's head and into the net. Hall is a disappointed and he knows he is he better than that.

"But he has been outstanding for us and he will bounce back. Sadly, when goalkeepers make mistakes that's what happens – it often ends up in the net."
