AFC Telford swoop to sign winger Jason Stokes
AFC Telford boss Andy Sinton has bolstered his squad with the signing of winger Jason Stokes, while defender Chris Blackburn has left the club, it has been announced.
Former Boston United midfielder Stokes, who was released by the club earlier this week, has joined the Bucks on a non-contract basis.
Sinton has been working throughout the week to bring in attacking players, but it had looked likely no deals would materialise before today's trip to Braintree Town.
But the club announced the capture on Twitter last night and the player, who can play on either wing, was expected to go into Sinton's squad for the game.
The club also issued their mid-season report last night, which also broke the news of Blackburn's departure.
The centre-back, who joined the club last January and had been sidelined for much of this season with a back injury, was placed on the transfer list just before Christmas.
The report stated: "Blackburn had his contract terminated by mutual consent after failing to state his commitment to the club and our values."
It also revealed that the club is set to receive additional money on top of the initial £3,000 fee received from striker Chris Sharp's recent transfer to Hereford United. Additional sums will be related to appearances, goals and the progress of his new club as well as a sell-on clause.
The report also detailed plans to host further internationals at the New Bucks Head following the success of England's Under-19s game against Finland in November.
"The event was such a success that we hope to host the Under-19 fixture against Turkey in March, the England Senior Women's team against Japan in June and the UEFA Under-17 Women's European Championships in November," the report read.
It also repeated the Bucks' ambition to become a Football League club.
