AFC Telford appoint Graham Hyde as No 2
AFC Telford United today appointed former Sheffield Wednesday and Birmingham City midfielder Graham Hyde as their new assistant manager after Mike Davies vacated the post.
The Bucks recruited Hyde after reluctantly accepting Davies' resignation last month in the third time he has tried to quit the club since July, due to business commitments.
Davies has become increasingly busy establishing a new sportswear business in Wrexham, but continued to assist the club until they were able to find a suitable replacement.
Now Hyde has arrived at the New Bucks Head as boss Andy Sinton's No 2. The two were team-mates as players at Sheffield Wednesday in the 1990s and stayed in touch.
Hyde was out of work since leaving his role as assistant and then caretaker manager of Boston United last month, when Jason Lee was sacked and replaced by Graham Drury.
The 42-year-old was joint manager and then full boss at Redditch United last season and led to the club to Evo-Stik Southern Premier League safety before resigning.
Hyde played under Sinton in 2007 during his first managerial post at Fleet Town and the two will be in the dugout together for the first time at home to Southport tomorrow.
Sinton said: "Graham is keen to get cracking and hungry to improve the club and himself. He has already thrown a number of new ideas at me.
"I believe he will instil an excellent work ethic and attitude towards the club."
The manager also went on record to express his gratitude to Davies' contribution to the club since both arrived at Telford in the summer of 2010.
Sinton said: "Mike is a great character but committing to two nights a week training and games was becoming increasingly difficult for him.
"I thank him immensely for what he has contributed."
Davies admitted that he will leave the New Bucks Head with a heavy heart but feels that the decision had to be made.
He said: "I love the club and really enjoy working with the gaffer. I have just reached a point where I am finding that I am having to focus more and more time on the business.
"I am finding it difficult to find enough time to give the manager the support he deserves. I leave on good terms but, at this moment in time, I need to focus on business and family."
Telford chairman Lee Carter added: "This demonstrates the pressures on part-time players and staff. We understand that the priority is his business but our business is our priority.
"We set our stall out very early on in insisting that management and players give us 100 per cent during any time that they have to offer to the club.
"We would like to thank Mike for his contribution. We welcome Graham to the club and we are confident that he will bring a new dimension to the management team."
