Davies' injury speeds up Bucks player search

Richard Davies' injury at Stockport County on Saturday may intensify AFC Telford United manager Andy Sinton's search for new recruits.

The Bucks chief has claimed there could be new faces by the time his team take on Wrexham at the New Bucks Head tomorrow.

Sinton has made no secret of his desire to strengthen in January but, having seen midfielder Davies limp out of the 2-2 draw at Edgeley Park with a suspected ankle injury after half-an-hour, he admitted he may need to move more swiftly.

He said: "The physio has said it might be best if Richard goes for an X-Ray. That's a blow. I have people lined up but it's got to be OK'd by three or four different sides.

"One the player, two his club, three our club so it's not quite that easy but if Richard's going to be out that will intensify the search, because we might need someone ready to go tomorrow."

Asked in which areas he would like to strengthen in January, he said: "I think we need strengthening in all areas of the pitch."

Sinton added that he was due to speak to chairman Lee Carter following Saturday's game to discuss transfers and he reiterated that some current players would be leaving.

Among them will be midfielder Jon Brown, who will be emigrating within days.

The club confirmed earlier this month that striker Darren Byfield's short-term deal would not be renewed in January, while fellow forward Chris Sharp is set to join Hereford United for £3,000.

Sinton added that on-loan defender Michael Wylde might also return to parent club Cambridge United after the Wrexham game.

The Bucks boss said: "Michael Wylde is here until January 2 so he can play on New Year's Day but Cambridge hold all the cards on that.

"The deal was that if we wanted to extend it we would have to contribute more than we are doing at the minute. I'm not sure if we can do that or not.

"I spoke to Cambridge's director of football, Jez George, on Friday and he said let's get Saturday's game out of the way and have another chat."
