AFC Telford blog - If we can dream it we can achieve it

How should you feel coming away with a point from a game against relegation rivals, that are sitting one point and one place below you in the table?

That question can pre-empt many answers, writes AFC Telford blogger Rob Hughes. Then when you factor in, that for the third time against sides around us in the relegation zone, we have squandered opportunities in the final minutes to see out victories – feelings of dissatisfaction are amplified.

A last-minute equaliser at home to Barrow, the failure to convert a last-minute penalty against Ebbsfleet, then an equalising goal in the third minute of stoppage time away to Stockport County. . . six more points would have seen us potentially up in 11th position, on a healthy 32 points.

As it is, we are nervously looking over our shoulders at what lies beneath.

Perhaps confidence can be taken from the performance though, for the second game running we have started to dig in, we look like we can create chances, just as we do that, we seem to have developed a bit of a soft centre.

Hopefully with the arrival of a couple of reinforcements we'll get us that bit of added fighting spirit, and know-all to see us through battles such as this. Battles, that we will find ourselves in many more times between now and May.

Maybe also that bit of extra competition in certain areas within the team could apply that extra little push. Jake Reid continued to look rejuvenated. Perhaps should have done better with his couple of chances in the first half, but put himself about well and posed questions of the Stockport defence.

Steve Leslie, had a mini purple patch, where he delivered some telling balls into the box, mainly when he was under the gaze of the manager, looking to replace him with Luke Hubbins. Something that despite his goals, he hasn't looked like doing too often lately.

Hubbins also looked lively, a lot of that will come down to grabbing his goal, moments after coming on, but if that is the confidence booster he needs to rediscover some of his early season form, then so be it- and long may it continue!

Phil 'the power' Trainer, deserves some credit for an excellent second half performance. Perhaps a shadow of the Trainer we have seen this season, in the first half, he certainly upped his game somewhat in the second period, not only grabbing our opening goal, but arriving bang on time to hit the cross bar with a header from a Leslie cross and also making a superb last ditch tackle, to prevent Stockport going through one on one with Ryan Young.

Wrexham on New Years' Day, will be a massive challenge for us. With the crowd behind us. The possible opportunity to strengthen before kick off and the new spirit and determination to right the wrongs the first half of the season showing early shoots of revival. Come noon on NYD, anything is possible.

We can dream can't we?

Yes, we can!

And I was once told . . . if we can dream it – we can achieve it.

So come on, believe in ourselves, in our team, in our club and together, let's make the Bucks Head into a fortress! Just think where we could be, come May, with an unbeaten home record.
