AFC Telford boss targets a six-pointer at Stockport
AFC Telford United manager Andy Sinton has challenged his team to take an important early step towards survival in the non-league's top flight when they travel to fellow strugglers Stockport County.
The Bucks boss will take his side to Edgeley Park tomorrow with the visitors sitting just a single place and point above the Blue Square Premier League relegation zone.
The hosts, meanwhile, will start in the position immediately below them and both sides are in great need of maximum points after enduring poor recent runs.
County have lost their last five games in the league while Sinton saw his side stretch an unenviable winless run to eight league matches with their 4-1 defeat at Wrexham on Boxing Day.
Sinton admitted the match has become 'huge' for both sides as they aim to move away from the drop zone as soon as possible.
But the manager was also encouraged by parts of his side's latest display at third-placed Wrexham, in which they were competitive for more than an hour before shipping three goals in 11 second-half minutes.
He said: "We need to build on parts of our game against Wrexham where we were energetic, where we closed opposition players down.
"We have just got to cut the silly mistakes out. We are neck and neck with Stockport on a similar sort of run, so it becomes a huge game.
"I say to my players, and I have done it throughout my managerial career, promotions and relegations are won or saved not just in the last month of the season.
"They are done over 46 games."
