AMBITIOUS Darren Byfield today set a twin target – helping AFC Telford United to a top-10 finish and securing his own long-term future in management.

The well-travelled marksman has been delighted with his early impressions of his new team-mates after signing for the Bucks on a six-month deal at the start of September.

Andy Sinton's side entered this afternoon's home clash with Woking in 13th place in Blue Square Bet Premier and knowing victory would see them rise at least one place.

And Byfield is confident Telford have every right to look even higher.

"It's a good side, it's exciting times for the club and there's no reason why we can't look at the top end of the table," said the 36-year-old former Jamaica international who lists Aston Villa and Sunderland among his 15 clubs in English football.

"When we get the confidence of winning games under our belts, if we can go on a run it could take us right up the league.

"We could be up there, looking at the squad we have we should be looking at the top 10, as a minimum."

Meanwhile, Byfield already has his sights on life after his playing days, and has taken strides towards securing a future in management.

"I did my Level Two coaching badge last season and I am going to do my UEFA B licence in the summer," he added.

"I'm looking at playing for another couple of years while I do my badges and then I will go into coaching.

"I am going to be a manager, one day, it's something I really want to do and I have a lot of ambition with it.

"I am a journeyman, I have been at a lot of clubs and that experience will help me when I go into management.

"I can be a lazy guy with other things off the pitch but, when it's something that I want, I am really focused."

Meanwhile, the Bucks are eyeing a bumper crowd for next weekend's home clash with Grimsby by embracing non-league day.

Season ticket holders of any Premier League or Football League club will be admitted to the Blue Square Bet Premier clash for just £5.

The offer forms part of a national campaign to cash in on a blank programme in the top two divisions due to international weekend.
