AFC Telford United saw off the spirited challenge of 10-man Woking to end a six-match winless run in the Blue Square Premier.

Darren Byfield, back in the starting line-up for only the second time, netted the only goal of the game and his first for the club in the sixth minute at the New Bucks Head today.

Woking went down to 10 men in the process, goalkeeper Aaron Lowe dismissed for hauling down Luke Hubbins, who tried to round him after breaking clear.

Hubbins had robbed Mike Cestor of the ball before he was felled and, with Sam Beasant replacing Lowe between the sticks, Byfield went low to the right with the goalkeeper going the other way.

Woking threw everything but the kitchen sink at Telford in search of an equaliser, particularly late on, but could not find a way through.

Kris Taylor and then goalkeeper Ryan Young blocked shots from Bradley Bubb, while the Bucks shot-stopper also turned wide a low Joe McNerney effort at his near post.

Seconds later on the break, Telford substitute Steve Jones rattled the woodwork with a shot to his near post, the right, with Beasant beaten.
