AFC Telford in mood to stun Newport County

After a strong start to the season AFC Telford midfielder Richard Davies believes the team are capable of getting results against any side in the Blue Square Bet Premier, including leaders Newport County.

The high-flying Welsh side will visit the New Bucks Head tonight aiming to stretch their current one point lead at the summit.

Justin Edinburgh's side have won seven of their first ten games but Telford's own strong start, which has seen them clock up 14 points so far, has given the team confidence that they can match anyone in the division.

Davies, who is expected to be handed his third start of the season, said the team had taken heart from creditable draws against former Football League sides Cambridge, Stockport, Lincoln and Mansfield as well as last month's defeat of pre-season title favourites Luton Town.

And he is adamant the team will not be daunted by the task at hand.

"To be honest, with the players we have got I think we are capable of going up against any team in the league and getting a result," he said. "The attitude is exactly the same for this as any other game. Every game we go with the same attitude, to get as many points as we can, work as a team and do well for each other.

"The way we have started gives us confidence. Even against the teams that are supposedly the big teams in the league like the Lutons, teams like that, we have done well against them so hopefully we can keep doing the same."

Andy Sinton may have a slightly larger playing pool from which to pick tonight's squad as well, with defender Dan Preston set to feature for the first time following a six-game suspension.

Winger Luke Hubbins (hamstring) and left back Ryan Valentine (back) could also play a role tonight after working to shake off injuries, Sinton has said.

"Preston will come straight back in, Luke Hubbins has done a week's intensive at Lilleshall and come through that well so if he's fit he'll either play or be in the 16. Valentine might have a chance," he said.

But defender Liam Chilvers will not be involved due to suspension following his red card against Mansfield on Saturday.
