Andy Sinton to act after Phil Trainer is sent off again

Frustrated AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton will fine midfielder Phil Trainer after seeing him sent off for the second time this season.

Trainer's red card at Stockport County last night proved costly, the hosts turning around a two-goal half-time deficit to draw 2-2.

Both goals came from corners, with Sinton admitting his side's repeated failure to deal with set-pieces had become an "Achilles heel" that needed addressing.

But Trainer's red card – less than a month after his Boxing Day dismissal against Wrexham – really disappointed the manager, who felt his second booking for a shove on Joe Connor was completely unnecessary.

"It was naïve, he let his team-mates down and I told him that," said Sinton.

"Yes, their lad went in a bit hard on Ryan Young, but Youngy has come out with the ball in his hands so there was no need to do it.

"It's a side to Phil's game that we have seen before – against Wrexham the game was gone and yet at the end he's clipped someone and got himself sent off.

"It has cost us and now it is going to cost him."

Meanwhile, the Telford chief remains keen to add to his squad before the January transfer window shuts .

Sinton has already recruited defenders Chris Blackburn and Ben Futcher, midfielder Marlon Jackson and striker Kyle Perry in the last three weeks.

And he was planning to meet with chairman Lee Carter today to discuss whether any other business was possible.

"I would still like to do something if I can. There are still areas where we have to improve," Sinton said.
