Manager Andy Sinton is battling against the clock as he tries to bring in a new defender for AFC Telford's home clash with Cambridge United tomorrow.

A 4-1 drubbing away to the same opposition in the FA Trophy last weekend convinced the Bucks boss that he had to act.

And he has already freed up some funds to make a move possible, by sending midfielder Jon Adams on loan to Leamington and agreeing to let veteran centre-back Stuart Whitehead join Worcester City.

"We are looking to improve, we are looking to progress, but there is only a certain amount of money in the pot," said Sinton.

"To get what we need I have to self-generate and to do that, there might have to be one or two players move on who, in an ideal world, would be staying.

"I'm still looking to get someone in for the weekend and we are close but it depends if we can do it financially, or if we can get one or two more out to free up the funds.

"Our defending was a strength of our side but it has let us down in recent weeks," he added.

"From being solid and tight at the back, that has become our Achilles heel."

Sinton is convinced Telford can put up a better show against the U's tomorrow, despite last week's heavy defeat.

"They are a good side," he said. "I've watched the DVD and it was never a 4-1 defeat last Saturday but that's what goes down in the record books."

Defender Chris Blackburn returns to the squad tomorrow, the recent signing from Stockport having been cup-tied for the Trophy game.
