Defender Stuart Whitehead could be set to sit out AFC Telford United's FA Trophy clash at Nuneaton on Sunday – with his wife Amy due to give birth to their second child today.
The 35-year-old centre-back has been given permission to skip training tonight and on Saturday morning.
And boss Andy Sinton will then assess his options before deciding whether he needs to call upon the senior pro in his squad.
Should Whitehead miss the first round tie, it is likely to mean an immediate recall for club captain Shane Killock – who missed the 0-0 draw with York on Tuesday through suspension.
"My wife was taken into hospital overnight and I've hardly had any sleep, it looks like they are going to do a caesarean section today," said Whitehead, who already has a four-year-old daughter, Neve.
"I spoke to the gaffer yesterday and because of what's going on he's given me tonight and Saturday off.
"You never know what's going to happen between now and then because Sunday is quite a way away yet."
The defensive situation is just one of a few selection dilemmas for Sinton.
Leading scorer Chris Sharp is also available after completing a three-game ban and the manager must decide whether to give him an immediate recall or stick with Andy Brown, who impressed against York.
Former Wolves midfielder Nathan Rooney also staked a claim to a place with a strong showing after coming on as a substitute for the injured Steve Jones.
"It's a great headache for me and that is what you want," said Sinton.
"We'll see what they are like tonight and there are a couple of people with bumps and bruises to assess.
"Going to Nuneaton I'd rather have Killock and Sharp available and whether I leave them out or play them is a decision for me."
