Forest Green Rovers set to take on AFC Telford
Under-pressure Forest Green Rovers boss Dave Hockaday believes his side can silence the critics with a strong showing at home to AFC Telford United tonight.
Under-pressure Forest Green Rovers boss Dave Hockaday believes his side can silence the critics with a strong showing at home to AFC Telford United tonight.
Telford make the trip to The New Lawn looking to put their own poor weekend performance against Ebbsfleet behind them.
But Hockaday, a former Shrewsbury Town right-back, came in for sustained abuse from his own supporters on Saturday as his side went down 1-0 at home to Kettering – their third consecutive game without scoring.
"My job is to come here and build something," said Hockaday, who was part of the Shrewsbury side that won the Division Three title back in 1993-94.
"If anybody says that we didn't pass the ball or create chances then they can't see what we can.
"I was not disappointed with the performance on Saturday, but I was disappointed with the result because we dominated everything then came an individual error.
"We had loads of chances. We passed them off the park and they'd almost given up, but we haven't put the ball in the back of the net.
"It's not that we're not creating chances, because we're getting the ball in the box, we are getting one-on-ones, free headers and shots, but we're not scoring goals and that puts pressure on the defence."
On-loan Kettering winger Jake Thomson could come into Hockaday's plans to face the Bucks, having had to sit out the meeting with his parent club on Saturday.
Thomson, a Trinidad & Tobago international, has made four appearances since joining the Gloucestershire club last month.
Eddie Oshodi, a recent recruit from Hockaday's former club Watford, and Andy Sandell, who has arrived on a three-month loan from Wycombe Wanderers, should also play a part.
Rovers' skipper Jared Hodgkiss, an ever-present this season, is a former West Brom youngster who had a short spell with Market Drayton Town at the start of the 2009-10 season.
