Striker Spencer Weir-Daley has been put on a contract at AFC Telford United – as boss Andy Sinton closes in on an experienced loan signing.
Sinton's side extended their unbeaten Blue Square Bet Premier run to four games last night, a Chris Sharp goal sealing a 1-0 win over Alfreton Town at the New Bucks Head.
But the Telford chief is eager to bring in a creative addition – and signalled that recent signing Weir-Daley is closing in on full fitness by moving to turn his non-contract arrangement into a deal that takes him through to the end of the season.
Former Nottingham Forest and Boston striker Weir-Daley had spent a spell with Evo-Stik League side Buxton in order to up his fitness levels but his progress was hampered by an ankle injury.
"He came to us without a pre-season and we verbally agreed that he would get a contract, but I said I wanted him to go and get three or four games somewhere first," said Sinton.
"Fair play to him, he's stuck to that. He wants to be here and he'll be a useful acquisition.
"If he does what I know he can do, then we have got another player capable of getting things out of nothing and turning chances into goals.
"We should be okay in that department now. Where I am looking to add is in our supply chain."
Meanwhile, Sinton declared himself "delighted" with Telford's latest victory which took them up to 13th.
"I'd have liked to have turned one or two of the draws into wins and I'd like to have one or two less defeats," Sinton admitted.
"But am I happy? Yes, I'm absolutely delighted to be honest.
"We've made a good start but there's a very long way to go, so I'll keep driving everyone forward."
