AFC Telford United boss Andy Sinton has urged his side to learn the lessons of Blue Square Bet Premier football after Saturday's 3-2 defeat at Southport.

The Bucks found themselves three goals down at Haig Avenue before fighting back to nearly earn a share of the spoils only for Sean Newton to miss a last minute penalty.

And Sinton is keen for his team to stop giving opposition teams the advantage, as happened on Bank Holiday Monday when Telford came from two down to draw at Tamworth.

He said: "We've been beaten by the odd goal in every game."

The higher up you go you have to take more of your chances and the ratio of mistakes to being punished is going to go up.

"We're doing very well, but we can't keep giving ourselves mountains to climb. We gave ourselves a hill to climb at Tamworth and we climbed it, we gave ourselves a mountain to climb today and we reached the summit but we couldn't quite put the flag in the ground. It's a learning curve for everybody."

And the Telford chief admitted he was disappointed with the start Telford made to the game.

"I really need to look at that first 20 minutes," he said. "Something seemed afoot, we were slow out the blocks and we were pedestrian and we couldn't get close. I was looking at my watch with 20 minutes gone and I was thinking we were staring down the barrel.

"Having said that I honestly thought at half time we would go on and win the game. That's the belief I have in those players."

Meanwhile, Sinton insisted new signing Spencer Weir-Daly remained apart of his plans despite being allowed to join Buxton on loan.
