A last minute Sean Newton penalty miss cost AFC Telford a share of the points as they suffered a 3-2 reverse away at Southport.

The slow starting Bucks were three down in no time after goals from Shaun Whalley, Dan Walker and Kevin Lee.

Greg Mills and Andy Brown netted before the break, and Newton had a golden chance to rescue a point but his tame penalty was kept out by keeper Matt Nemes.

The contest looked all over midway through the first period as the home side carved out opportunities at will.

The impressive Whalley opened the scoring when he curled home a right footed effort before Walker doubled the advantage with a neat finish four minutes later, and when Lee headed home an Andy Owens long throw the points seemed safe.

But the Bucks roared back and Mills' free kick sparked them into life before Brown prodded home a Chris Sharp cross to put the result in the balance.

Both sides had chances to add to the scoreline in the second half with Sharp seeing a strong penalty claim turned down and Andy Brown having a header cleared off the line.

At the other end Whalley saw a shot blocked before the late drama.
