AFC Telford United were today facing an anxious wait for international clearance before being able to confirm the signing of striker Chris Sharp from The New Saints.

The Oswestry-based outfit announced the departure of their prolific hitman to the Bucks yesterday afternoon.

But Telford insist the move will collapse if clearance does not go through before the 11pm transfer deadline as they would not then be able to field the player until the window re-opens in January.

"We're just waiting on the FA and international clearance - and one of the stipulations is that if that doesn't come through by tonight then there is no deal," boss Andy Sinton confirmed.

"It's pointless us paying a fee if we can't use the player until January.

"We've agreed terms with the player and he's had a medical so it's just a race against time now to see if we can get clearance through."

Sinton, who was also looking to complete one other non-contract deal today, sees Sharp as an ideal addition to improve his side's goal threat.

And it is believed that, with add-ons, the fee would eventually see the 25-year-old become Telford's record signing, eclipsing the £5,000 paid to Tamworth for Lee Moore in December 2006.

Sinton is looking to add a defender to his ranks as additional cover, with skipper Shane Killock currently struggling with a mystery rib injury that is affecting his breathing.

The Telford chief is also ready to put winger Phil John - who was with Telford last season - on dual registration forms.

John, who impressed in the early stages of pre-season, is currently playing for Didcot Town in the Evo-Stik Southern League division one south and west.

Sinton also confirmed that none of his senior players were likely to be leaving before the window closes.

"I have had enquiries from people wondering if we can loan anyone out," he added.

"And I will soon be looking to get three or four of the boys out to get some games because we have got a big squad."
